What I Did On My Summer Vacation: Improv Edition

At the beginning of summer I made this deal with a friend over tapas and beer that every day I’d challenge myself to do something that pushes me outside my comfort zone. So this super-calculated PR chic took a giant leap outside of her extra defined comfort zone and enrolled in a summer Zoo Improv workshop.
Not only did I meet some crazy-fun people, but I learned to break all of my self-imposed rules like always choose your words extra carefully and never let your guard down. But more importantly I learned that beautiful and extra funny things come from mistakes.
Our little workshop troupe is going our very first show this Friday night. It’s going to be a wild ride. Learn more about Zoo Improv Workshops here.

Usually when I’m trying to find words that are analogous to something in my life, I consult old episodes of The West Wing, or some book I fell into once upon a time. But when you can relate your life to a Katy Perry song, you need to pull out some Hemingway. Stat.

Some heavy metal drama. This weekend I did my first Illinois Marathon Mini-Challenge. The Challenge was 5k on Friday night, and hours later on a cold and rainy Saturday morning I did my first 10k. I usually knock out a 5k a few days a week, but was not properly trained for the 10k. Given that I ditched my training program for a crazy work schedule, less sleep, and more wine over the last 7 weeks, I was proud of myself for finishing!

These are some of my favorite photos from the Champaign County Republican Lincoln Day with Gov. Mitch Daniels. The planning of this event had been one of my top priorities for about six months. It was important to me for many reasons, but mainly because I like Gov. Daniels very much and I hope that he’s our president one day, because this event was to raise significant funding for the local elections, and because it had the potential to really “fire up” local Republicans. It’s hard to believe that it’s over. And despite the economy, political climate, thousands of protestors, and so many, many details, this event went off flawlessly—-thanks to many, many people.
And, yes, I did stick my tongue to an elephant ice sculpture. It was double-dog-daring me all night!
